Energy Chamber Wins National Safety Award

The Energy Chamber was extremely proud to once again win the Team Category in the Occupational Health and Safety Agency's National Safety Awards, which came off last Wednesday in a ceremony at the Hyatt Hotel. The award was for achievements of the Safe to Work (STOW) Implementation Board in promoting contractor safety in the energy sector during 2009. This was a break-through year for the Energy Chamber and the STOW initiative, with the completing of the training and certification of a cadre of independent assessors and the initiation of the process of final certification in a group of smaller energy service companies. 2009 also saw huge strides towards the sustainability of the initiative, with the agreement from all the major players that STOW would become a mandatory requirement for all contractors and service companies working with them.
The Energy Chamber continues to pursue the implementation of STOW vigorously and during 2010 we expect a large number of service companies and contractors to finally become fully STOW certified. Matching grant funds are available to assist smaller companies in implementing STOW, using resources made available from the Inter American Development Bank - Multi-lateral Investment Fund, and this is helping the process of implementation amongst smaller contractors.
Further information on STOW is available through our website at www.energy.tt

The Energy Chamber promotes the practice of Corporate Social Responsibility in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean, with particular emphasis on accountability and transparency, volunteerism and waste disposal.
