Harnessing our Energies for a Cleaner T&T

For National Clean Up and Beautify T&T Day on June 27, 2010, the Energy Chamber concentrated its efforts primarily on the King’s Wharf area in San Fernando. The response from member and even non-member companies was overwhelming and impressive as companies pledged their support, the use of heavy equipment such as a backhoe, skips, hyabs, water trucks and a dump truck and committed their staff volunteers to get their hands dirty as they cleaned-up San Fernando.

Other areas which the Energy Chamber devoted its efforts to were: the Cross Crossing interchange which was cleaned and beautified by Alutrint and the Heroes Foundation working alongside other youth volunteer groups: the Point-a-Pierre Road into Vistabella- also clean by Alutrint and Heroes Foundation, South Trunk Road La Romaine and the M2-Ring Road of which Schlumberger Trinidad cleaned up and did an excellent job; and Lady Hailes Avenue which was cleared of all garbage by the team from Tucker Energy Services, alongside others.

It was interesting to witness the level of activity, energy and buzz down at the waterfront and at the King’s Wharf as all the teams made their way around picking up bottles, tires, garbage, filth and many unmentionable and strange items.
Most of the excitement however, took place around the heavy equipment operated by Tucker Energy Services crew with their hyabs, lifting and transporting skips of slop and garbage, the backhoe operator availed to the team by Weldfab Limited and Paramount Transport who offered the much needed dumptruck which hauled away old, rotted pirogues. This team was joined by Trinidad Cement Limited, National Gas Company staff and the Energy Chamber Executive Office who did the pick up and clean up on the ground. Partnering with the Energy Chamber at the Wharf was the San Fernando Business Association and clearly, combined efforts resulted in a job well done.

A lot of good will went into the clean-up effort in San Fernando City and environs and the Energy Chamber wishes to commend all companies involved for their support and assistance in cleaning up San Fernando.

The Energy Chamber promotes the practice of Corporate Social Responsibility in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean, with particular emphasis on accountability and transparency, volunteerism and waste disposal.
